There are three parts that make up iAFC:

1. Dynamic Damper Effect (DDE)

DDE sends the sound from the speaker system to recreate the warm, spacious sound that occurs when holding down the damper pedal on a grand piano.

2. Spatial Ensemble Effect (SEE)

This uses advanced signal processing to recreate the natural reverberation and resonance you would hear if playing a grand piano on a real stage. It also recreates the acoustic chamber of the cabinet of a real piano so that resonances from outside the piano are recreated. For example, when a singer stands at the open lid of a grand piano, the soundboard picks up the singer's voice and subtlety adds depth to the sound. This is recreated with SEE.

3. Natural Soundboard (NSB)

The physical soundboard of a piano is how the sound is amplified. It disperses sound in acoustic waves into a room. While soundboards move the sound in all directions, speakers are directional in nature. Using NSB, iAFC has the sound sent from the speakers of the Clavinova to match how it would come from a soundboard. NSB creates a virtual soundboard producing a rich, expansive, and more natural sound.

Yamaha's iAFC has given the digital piano that last layer of acoustic reproduction of sound found in the acoustic piano. With iAFC, the player has the optimum in piano realism in a digital form

Experience this amazing sound by:

1. Playing the Clavinova with the iAFC button turned on and then listening to the sound as you turn it off.
2. In addition, to truly experience the power of this function and to see that it is not "surround sound" but a truly acoustic resonating chamber, set the iAFC to SEE (Spatial Ensemble Effect) and do the following:
3. Go to a grand piano with the lid open and yell your name into the piano. You will hear a slight echo of your voice. Now, go over to a Clavinova with iAFC and place you mouth near either the right or left side area above the keyboard and yell your name. You will hear the same effect as in the grand piano.
4. Also, go to any acoustic piano and tap on the lid. As you tap, you will hear an echo representing the sound chamber of the cabinet on the piano. Now, with iAFC on and set to SEE, do the same on the lid of the Clavinova. You will hear the same resonation as in the cabinet of the acoustic piano.
