At iMusician.co.uk we have one of the largest collections of Grade A Yamaha Pre-owned U1 Pianos. All of the pianos have been meticulously sourced and offer incredible value-for-money. The Yamaha U1s originally come from Japan and are shipped across to our Dutch warehouse/workshop where each Yamaha Grade A Piano is individually checked to make sure they represent the highest possible standard for a 2nd hand Yamaha piano..
Don't Forget - When you buy from iMusician you're buying from an establised company, not from a one-man-band or a single person running a business from his garage.
Japanese Yamaha U1s make an excellent investment since they have life long expectancy and are built to very high standards. There is the highest ownership of Yamaha U1 pianos (and Yamaha U3 Pianos) in Japan and the quality of the Japanese manufacture is recognised the world over by professional musicians and pianists.
The Yamaha U1 has the following dimensions:
Height: 48 inches (1219 mm) | Width: 60 inches (1524 mm) | Depth: 24 inches (610 mm)
Prior to them leaving us all the Yamaha U1s are given a final inspection and tuning in our specialist piano workshop and as such we're able to offer a 1 year guarantee on the Yamaha U1 & Yamaha U3.
Where Do We Source These Yamaha U1s?
All of these pianos are sourced by our Dutch wholesaler. This company specialises in finding the very best Japanese Grade A Yamaha U1s to make sure we offer a higher quality than some of our competitors. The majority of our pianos used to reside in Japanese homes not in schools or colleges and have therefore had a very gentle life. When you buy a piano in Japan it is always bought new (more about this is a moment) and the piano is always bought with a maintenance contract of 10, 15 or 20 years. This one-off payment means the piano will be serviced twice a year and maintained to a very high standard throughtout its time with that family.
After the period is up then the family will buy another new piano. In Japan it is not considered the 'done thing' to buy 2nd hand - you must buy new. As such this means that a lot of pianos are left over and cannot be sold in Japan.
Our wholesaler has agents in Japan who individually chooses the best U1 pianos and avoids ones that have had a hard life. All the pianos have the new modern delignit pinblock which is able to withstand the rigours of modern day central heating and keep the piano in tune for longer.
What Work Is Carried Out On The Yamaha U1s?
All work is carried out in a fully equipped piano factory unlike some pianos on the market. The piano factory replace all worn items. These include piano felts, loop cords, strings and key tops. In addition the casework is cleaned, recoated and polished. All this work means that the U1 will be a superior second hand instrument with many years of top piano performance ahead. Loop cords are an essential component to keeping the repitition of a keys movement fluid which can hinder a players performance if not at its optimum level. As such all the loop cords on our Yamaha U1s are replaced. Even the back of the piano is cleaned and the back of the piano's wood is bleached to make sure that the piano looks absolutely pristine in your home. When they reach our UK piano workshops the pianos are inspected again and any problems that may have arisen on their transport to us is resolved on-site. They are also then tuned by our own resident in-house piano tuner.
What Finishes are available on the Yamaha U1s?
The 2nd hand Yamaha U1s are only available in black polyester. Black is considered a good luck colour in Japan so all these pianos are black.
How many pedals are there on the Yamaha U1 and what do they do?
All our Yamaha U1 Pianos have 3 pedals
- Sustain Pedal. This holds off the dampers to allow the piano to sing.
- Una Corda or Soft Pedal. Moves the hammers closer to the strings to provide a subtle reduction in volume.
- Practice Pedal. Moves a felt in front of the hammers to substantially reduce the volume for practice purposes.
What Guarantee Do We Offer On Our Yamaha U1 Pianos.
We offer a one year waranty on our Yamaha U1 Pianos which covers any defective parts of the piano keys and mechanism. The case is not covered by this warranty.

Piano Tuning At Your Home
The Yamaha U1 will be tuned before we send it to you. This tuning should remain true for many months afterwards and we don't recommend getting the piano tuned before then while it 'settles' in the temperature of your house. If you have the piano tuned immediately upon delivery you will still need to get it re-tuned
After that time we have information of over 1000 Piano Tuners who are accredited by the Piano Tuners Association of Great Britain. These Piano Tuners cover the extent of the UK so you can be sure we'll be able to recommend someone close to yourself.
